Delete your OpenOcean account

You can delete your OpenOcean account and the data tied to it at any time. There are two ways.

In the app

Open Settings, choose Delete account, and confirm. Deletion takes effect immediately: your login is removed, and your profile, preferences, boats you own (with their positions and tracks), journeys, contacts, safety records, contributions ledger, devices and push tokens are deleted. Your messages and comments stay in other people's conversations attributed to an anonymous "deleted user". If you still own a boat that has other accepted crew, the app asks you to hand it to another captain or delete the boat first (its crew get 24 hours' notice).

By email, without the app

If you no longer have the app installed, email support@openoceanhub.com from the email address on your account with the subject "Delete my account". We confirm the request from that address and complete the deletion within one month, then tell you it is done.

Files you uploaded

Photos, videos and voice notes you uploaded are not removed from storage by account deletion, and once the account is gone we can no longer tell which files were yours. If you want them removed, email us before you delete the account and we will delete them first.

What is kept

A few records stay without your identity: places you created or claimed on the map, guide sections you contributed, and moderation records. Backup copies age out on the backup cycle. The full description is in our Privacy Policy, section 14.
